Laura joined HQC as Program Director in August 2021. Prior to joining, she was the Director of Public Engagement at HIV Network of Edmonton Society from 2012-2021. Here she led all public education and policy initiatives to create better understanding of the social determinants of health and drivers of HIV, STIs, and other blood borne pathogens with a strong focus on stigma reduction.
Laura has a Bachelor of Child and Youth Care from the University of Victoria, a Bachelor of Social Work from University of Calgary as well as a Master of International Social Work from the University of Calgary with a concentration on community development and social marketing for behaviour change specifically in infectious disease management/Public Health.
As a member of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) for the Canadian Red Cross, she has responded to the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone as well as to Tokyo for the COVID-19 outbreak on the Diamond Princess Cruise Ship as a Psychosocial Support Delegate.
