There’s something about summer in Saskatchewan that invites reflection. Across the province, we’re seeing the results of months of hard work beginning to emerge – whether it’s in our fields, our communities, or the relationships we’ve built.
Improvement in healthcare isn’t all that different. Meaningful change rarely happens overnight. It needs time to build momentum: one conversation, one partnership, one improvement at a time.
That’s the work of the Saskatchewan Health Quality Council. We bring people together to learn from one another, focus on what matters most, and turn insight into action. Every step helps build a health system that is safer, more responsive, and shaped by the people it serves.
Our 2025-26 Annual Report tells that story. Behind every milestone is a team of dedicated people who asked better questions, embraced new ways of working, and remained focused on improving care for the people of Saskatchewan.
This year, that momentum has shown up in meaningful ways:
Building a stronger foundation
- Launched two provincial strategies, the Provincial Quality & Safety Strategy and the People-Centred Measurement Strategy, to advance evidence-informed improvement within our health system
- Supported 289 family physicians in understanding their practice patterns through BestPractice Primary Care Panel Reports
Building improvement capability
- Provided more than 140 hours coaching and supporting 33 primary care clinical teams through the Innovation Fund, a provincial initiative aimed at improving access to care
- More than doubled participation in our QI Power Hour webinar series, growing from 1,336 registrants last year to 2,747 this year – a 105% increase in people building quality improvement knowledge and skills
Strengthening partnerships
- Partnered with five First Nations to co-develop community health quality reports, reflecting a growing trust and a shared commitment to using data in ways that support community priorities and informed decision-making
- Participated in 101 community engagements, continuing to build respectful relationships with First Nations and Métis partners across Saskatchewan
Generating knowledge for better decisions
- Completed six collaborative research projects alongside health system partners, the Canadian Network for Observational Drug Effect Studies, and the Post-Market Drug Evaluation Program.
- Identified 92 transportation programs across 75 Saskatchewan communities through Thrive at Home’s Transportation Action Hub, creating a clearer picture of transportation access across the province
As we look ahead, we’ll continue doing what we do best: measuring what matters, building capacity for system-wide improvement, and helping turn evidence into action. After all, better healthcare isn’t built in a single season. It grows over time through strong partnerships, continuous learning, and a shared commitment to making Saskatchewan an even better place to live.
Thank you to everyone who helped build that momentum this year. I’m excited about what we’ll accomplish together next.
