Alternate Level of Care (ALC): Informational Video)

October 3, 2016

This 10-minute video is part of an ongoing communications and education strategy to help Saskatchewan health regions implement the new Alternate Level of Care strategy, as part of the Provincial Emergency Department Waits and Patient Flow Initiative.

The target audience is point of care staff – including physicians – across the province. This video supplements information in the ALC module in the Patient Flow Toolkit, including the data collection form, and new provincial policy. The video is intended to:

  • Position the ALC strategy as part of the broader provincial work on ED waits and patient flow;
  • Clarify the definition of ALC and its appropriate application;
  • Provide concrete examples of how ALC data can be used both regionally and provincially to improve patient care.
  • Explain the importance of the ALC data collection and how the data will be used.
